Fireworks in Tultepec: A Cultural and Ethnographic Treasure
Luxury, beyond the mere possession of valuable objects or the encounter with extraordinary people, is redefined when experienced through unique and profound cultural experiences. A fascinating example is the International Pyrotechnics Festival in Tultepec, Mexico.
Ongoing since 2018, these photographs document Mexico’s visceral devotion to fireworks, a blend of adrenaline, fervor, and fire-worship. Using the International Pyrotechnics Fair (FIP Tultepec) and the religious festivities in honor of San Juan de Dios, the patron saint of pyrotechnics, as a lens, the series explores Tultepec not just as a spectacle, but as a cohesive community where fireworks are the true core of identity, tradition, religion and social organization.
